January 1995

Land Purchased. 3 Acres located at Mile 15 on East End Road, Fritz Creek, Alaska.

July, 2001

Started house design with Marty Borges of Timberpeg.

May, 2002

Basic Plans seem to be set and ready for actual drawings to be made.


July, 2002

Met with Marty and contracted Timberpeg to do the actual design.


March, 2003

Plans are set, contract is signed. On to the actual construction drawings.


July 3, 2003

We arrive in Alaska. We take a few days to be tourists before going to Homer/Fritz Creek.

Arrive in Homer and proceed to our land (the right piece) with Sam Beachy of Beachy Construction. We arrange to have the surveyor and excavator on site the next day.


July 8, 2003

Boundaries are marked and we are ready to clear the land.

The land is cleared and we lay out the boundries of where the house will located.


July 14, 2003

We depart for New York but leave the construction in capable hands.


August 21, 2003

The Well is in!! It's 355 feet. Phew! Now we can move forward.


August 25, 2003

The actual foot print is staked out and we are ready to dig.


August 29, 2003

The hole is dug and we are ready for the forms.


September 3, 2003

The forms are all in place. We are ready to pour.

I arrive in Homer in a Snow Storm!! The Apartment is essentially completed and ready to move into. I need to go to Soldotna to pick up a refrigerator, stove, and bedroom furniture. It's going to be a busy week!

The first truck (there are 4) arrives at 0830. We start unloading and preping for construction first thing tomorrow.

Construction has started. It is cold (36) and very windy! By the end of the day we have walls!

Construction continues. We have decked over the second floor and have started building and putting up the roof rafters. At 1530 today we set the largest beam in the house (see the pictures), it weighed in the neighborhood of 700 - 800 pounds. The temperature is 55 and sunny

Construction continues. Weather continues to be delightful! Sunshine and warmth. We have started putting on the lid. It's really taking shape.

Construction Continues. Weather continues to cooperate, although the last few days have been cold. The lid is almost completely on. We should be dryed in by weeks end. I can now see the rooms taking shape. We have a curious visitor checking out the constrution.

Construction Continues. Weather continues to cooperate, although it continues to be cool (high 50's in the afternoon). The covered deck is up as well as all rafters. Sun doesn't go down until 2230 and getting later every day. Howard planted Rhubarb today, we now officially have a garden.

Construction Continues. Weather continues to cooperate. We did get rained on Monday afternoon. Today it reached 70 and bright sunshine! We have gotten the whole lid on and have started framing the connector from the garage to the house. I've become a regular carpenter's helper. I am basically a gofer but they do let me measure, cut, and rip. I now know what ledgers are as well as purlins, rafters, girts, etc.

Construction Continues. Started raining late Saturday Night and continued through Tuesday. We are now completely Dryed In! Started, and pretty much completed framing the interior walls. No one will be working Tomorrow or Monday for the Memorial Day Weekend. Note that today's pictures were taken at 2200! The Sun doesn't set until 2303 and is back up at 0458. It never really gets dark, as a matter of fact Civil Twilight (enough light to read by) ends at 0016 and resumes at 0350.

May 28 - June 4, 2004

Construction Continues. Plumbing has been roughed in. We now have a stairway to the second floor. Weather remains gorgeous, today the temperature reached 72 with bright sunshine. Our building inspector showed up today (after being gone for about a week) to show us her new additions to the family.

Construction Continues. We are ready for the roofers next week. Insulation is going up. Set 2 Windows today. Weather continues to coperate. Our building inspector is breaking in her apprentices. Check out the Sunset on the Mountains, Time: 2330.

I've been gone a month. There has been lots of progress. It is HOT (mid 70's) and dry. Now that we are here I will keep the Web site posted at least weekly. Keep checking back.

Weather continues to be warm. The front door has arrived. Windows are all in and the siding is going up. The Dacor appliances have been deleivered as well as the stone for the Tulikivi. Things certainly are progressing nicely.

All the windows are in, the Heating Plant is being installed, exterior painting has started and we are expecting the Gypcrete to be poured on Monday. This is progress!

Special update. We poured the Gypcrete this morning. Once they were set up it took them about an hour to pour the whole house. They were done at about 1300 and we were walking on it by 1630. Check out the pictures, really cool.

The rest of the week was spent siding, painting, building the Balcony Rail System, and getting the boilers ready for firing (first thing Monday Morning). The flooring, decking and interior doors have ben delivered.

Well, as promised the boilers were fired on Monday, too bad we don't need the heat. We are back to hot weather (upper 60's to mid 70's). ALL the siding is on and we've started painting the interior. We have started putting the Trex decking down.

The weather continues to be warm and suuny. This week was a big one. The HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) was installed. We have been applying color to the exterior and the wood floors in the office and upstairs have been completed. The Cable Rail has also been installed.

The weather continues to be warm and suuny. Vinyl is being laid, plumbing is in, doors are being hung, and light fixtures are going up. Tuesday Morning the guys from Alsaka Masonry Heat will start the installation of the Tulikivi. This is the last major item, we're getting close!

August 23 - August 27, 2004

Monday was frantic getting ready for the Tulikivireps. They arrive on Tuesday and they will be the first guests at Timber Bay B&B. They arrived on schedule and installed (actually built in place) the Tulikivi. More flooring went down and more light fixtures have been hung. The exterior is now completely painted and just awaits the trim.

August 28 - September 4, 2004

Trim is almost done and we are hanging doors on the first floor. We started cutting in the Basement Windows. The Kitchen Cabinets are being installed as well as the Glass Rail around the deck. There is fall in the air, it got down to 38F last night, but climbed to 65F and bright sunshine today.

All the basement windows have been put in, the glass rail is in, doors are all hung, lighting is almost totally installed, and the kitchen is coming along. There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. I am now actively taking reservations - book early for a guaranteed awesome vacation.

The final grading has been done. Outside trim is up and we are working on closets. This weeks 'Contractors Lunch' on Friday took place in the main house. We have now served a meal there, HUZZAH!!!!

The Final Installment! Everyhing is essentially done and we are moving in! Furniture has been delivered and it all looks great. Check back often as I will be posting an NEW and IMPROVED WEB SITE very shortly.
