The drive from Whitehorse to Haines Junction was uneventful. After passing through Haines Junction we ran into road construction. For the next 180 Miles (to the Alaska border) it was very slow going. Every 3 km we saw a sign Rough Road Next 3 km. Passed through US Customs with no issues. Pulled into Tok and decided to push through a little further. We stopped at Mentasta Summit at the Mentasta Lodge. An earthquake , 7.2 on the Richter Scale, went right through it in October 2002. Consequently it was in a state of disrepair, i.e., no running water in the Motel Rooms. We were so tired and the next outpost was 85 miles down the road we decided to stay anyway. As it turned out the food in the restaurant was very good and the bar had a great selection of beer and some good characters to 'Chit Chat' with.
